Newsletter - July

Posted by Jody Ellis on 8th Jul 2019

It's hard to believe that we are over HALF WAY through the year now! So it has to be asked, where are we at on our cross stitch projects? Everyone, even Unconventional X Stitch, gets bitten by that dreaded Stitch Bug Virus that leaves us feeling unable to stitch. We had that a little while back on Nostalgia which we just lost a bit of motivation on. So we decided the best cure was a new starts, and boy was it a cure! We worked feverishly on Skol and even though it took longer to complete than expected, we came up with another awesome design True Love which really drove us to finish Skol.

Here is how my True Love turned out!

True Love was full of beautiful colors and that made us hungry for Nostalgia again and so here we are, working hard on Nostalgia with a finish in sight as we power through the final two rows! So for us, what inspires us to get that needle stabbing again is a new start. If you have that Stitch Bug Virus, why not consider finding that new start in our catalog and get the bug revving again!

It feels like nothing new to say that a lot has changed for us over here at Unconventional X Stitch. We are constantly evolving and changing to keep up to date with the latest trends and developments in the industry as well as keep fresh content and patterns coming your way so you are never short of a Stash update or new start. So what has changed?

For those that missed the last newsletter, this beauty is still gaining steam and turning the cross stitch industry on its head! So here is the catch up. Running a pattern subscription is something we have always wanted to offer, but how and cost were always the big items we focused on and until we had it where we wanted, we were not going to let that puppy run. Finally we had it. Subscribe easily with PayPal which automates your subscription payments, get added to the subscriber VIP list and then access all your awesome patterns for the month. Patterns change every month and we have a special pattern that gets released to subscribers only for the first month of release! We thought that was a wicked way of doing things, and it was easy because you just added your patterns to cart, they were discounted to $0 and you checked them out and bam they are in your purchase list. Sweeeet. Easy is what we like to do, and we think we got that there. The price was where we really drunk a toast to success though because we managed to get that subscription offered for as little as $42 a month. So far feedback has been great, so we introduced another for the entire catalog of Unconventional X Stitch designs (those beautiful $7 patterns you'll find in the catalog) and you can access the whole thing for as little as $20 a month. With new designs going in all the time, and the current catalog valued at over $1,200 it's a no brainier for the UXS fans out there.

We also ran our second Stitch-a-Thon event for the year, and had a blast. Lots of friendly banter and competition was had. Our mini events proved popular with some really fantastic entries. Competition for the grand prize was fierce, we won't lie, there were casualties there with folks having to drop out for various reasons but we had a reigning champion in the end! With it's second bout of success, we will of course run a third, but will be taking a short break before establishing the next event. Watch our Facebook Group for more info!

We have changed around categories a bit, adding in age warnings and being a bit more discrete with our fetish works. We understand not every category is for everyone, and we want to be inclusive of all stitchers and this can be an immense challenge in keeping the website designed in a way that you see what you want and avoid what you don't. We hope those changes have made your website experience a little easier. We've also changed around our needle minder section a bit. We are getting out of scissor fobs so those are on a fantastic discount!

Needle minders have evolved and you'll see a lot more hand painted designs and alternative finishes. We have returned to the wonderful world of painting, and to be honest, we don't think we've painted for what might be over two decades! It's refreshing to be back, and we are applying our renewed passion to those beautiful resin needle minders. This means we are also having a clearance on many of our needle minders as we make way for our new products. It's a win win, we clear stock and you guys get a bargain. So don't forget to check those out.

We have just entered the school holidays here in Perth, WA, so it's keeping the kids happy and entertained while also balancing our passion and business. We are lucky in that the kids have taken a keen interest in the business as well, and they help in many of the business aspects like stickering and stamping boxes! We already have one who loves the art of making resin minders, so I expect both kids will join the UXS business family in the future when they are at an age that's right to be doing so!

Well I've rambled enough, so I best be off! I hope you've enjoyed this intalment and look forward to writing again soon!
